Holland Marsh River in Heat!

Holland marsh river at Bradford oil on 18x24 canvas
This is from a photo I took a couple of weeks ago during the hot humid weather of July.
The whole thing has been a challenge and I think it still is a "Work in Progress", it shall go on the "But" wall for a while.
I painted without a drawing, never done that before, just roughed in the general shapes with very thin Burnt Sienna, and then went from there, the challenges were the leaves in the blue sky and the reflections on the water, and now I notice a tree branch in the top right hand corner that will have to come out!
Ah well have to wait till the brown dries.
In the mean time I'm going to tackle two horse and riders.
"Such Fun" as the English say!

A Winter's Night

"A winter's Night" oil on 8x8 board
Homeward bound on a winters night, my daughter Lisa took this on Instagram, after a long days work.

I think it gives a feeling of the depth of winter and a long walk home! I wanted to try a dark moody painting, for some reason I turned the painting upside down and started that way, just like Monet mentioned where you see a colour paint it!

So that was my thought to see what would happen to give the effect I tried not to be overly fussy and let the paint go not fiddling around for details.

Do you know I think it was fun!

"Sunrise Silhouette"

"Sunrise Silhouette" Oil on 8x8 board

This little painting was inspired by my daughter who is an accomplished photographer. She seems to be a natural, always manages to catch  an unusual shot.

I must admit it took a little thinking on how to work it out as a painting.

I think the colours really gives it life in the background and a feeling of a walk to work and Iphone in your pocket on a cold early morning.

"Ready for the Storm"

"Ready for the Storm" oil on 8x10 board
John took the original photo of this, it was a lovely Autumn day with a storm on the way, the clouds were incredible colours all intermixed with white purple blue, in the fore ground the two horses ambled up the hill and it made a beautiful picture with highlights on the animals.

I hope I have managed to do this little painting justice it makes you look at the sky more often.

Even in the winter it can amaze you how colours can change and cloud patterns can be so interesting.
